Ponte Pilas - Manifesto

ACT NOW

We are a Berlin-based rock ‘n’ roll band called Ponte Pilas. We are working with FFF Ecuador and Weimar and we’ve got something we would like to give you.

Back in October 2019 we traveled to Weimar, invited to play for a big FFF demonstration. We arrived expecting to do our thing and to also protest for a cause that has been very close to our hearts since the band started. We had no idea what a powerful and long-lasting impact this trip would have on us. We got to see first hand the conviction and determination that those behind FFF move forward with. We shared thoughts, feelings and food with them and we were truly inspired and awakened about the reality of the world we live in as well as these young people’s passion and capacity to change it. So we thought to ourselves what we could do to help them, humanity and the planet regain hope?

We had written a new song specifically for that demonstration called “Tinderbox” but we did not know then either what it would become. We poured our hearts into the song and it became probably our most popular song at shows, though we are yet to release it (it will come out on the 13th of August). We want to bring awareness of the climate crisis as well as to deservedly honor FFF to a rock ‘n’ roll audience and the rest of the world and, to do so, we have put together a video with young activists from the Galapagos Islands. Three members of the band come from Ecuador and are very concerned about what has been happening there due to the climate crisis. Your protests over the world and what we witnessed first-hand in Weimar have been our motivation.

Here it is for you to check out (captions for the lyrics are available!):

We are convinced that this will lead people to get inspired, find out more about the reality of the challenge we face and, most importantly, to take action now.

You can use this video/song freely in any way you want. Our shared cause is all that matters. Furthermore we do not only want to contribute artistically but we are also aware of the monetary needs of the FFF organization for their own sustainability. So we are printing sustainably sourced T-shirts whose total earnings will be donated to this organization.

We would love to hear what you think and if there is any way that we can be of more help!

Best wishes,

Ponte Pilas
